About Miguel Farías

Miguel Farías is a Venezuelan-Chilean composer and writer whose work explores the intersection of music, literature, and contemporary social themes. He holds a PhD in Latin American Studies and is currently Associate Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. His catalogue spans orchestral, chamber, and operatic works, with a particular focus on music-theatre. Operas such as El Cristo de Elqui and La Compuerta nº12 exemplify his interest in literary adaptation and the construction of musical narrative. His music has been performed by major orchestras across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Kansas City Symphony, and the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo. Farías has received numerous international awards and has participated in major artistic programs such as the Lucerne Festival, curated by Pierre Boulez. In 2024, he published his debut novel Plástico.
